There is not an NC Final Exam or other state administered assessemnt for World Language courses. There are district assessments for Level 1 and 2 language courses. The assessments are aligned to state and national standards. They address the 3 modes of communication: interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational. Just as grammar and vocabulary are to be taught in context, rather than as isolated skills, there are not sections of the assessments that issolate these concepts. The district assesssments help to maintain conistent expectations accross the district, and provide feedback to inform planning and instruction. As with other final assessments, the test is worth 20% of the final course grade. High school students may be exempt from these assessments if they meet the requirements of the district exam exemption policy.
