Bolton Elementary School

All articles of clothing must be a solid color and may not contain any insignias, logos, slogans, stripes, writing, printing, screening, or embroidering.  The Uniform Dress Code Policy will be in effect during the school day, Monday through Thursday, while students are on campus or while at any school-related or after-school activity.  On Fridays, students may wear everyday clothing, including Bolton wear and jeans; however, dress must comply with the WS/FC Schools dress code.

The uniform dress code is not required for evening events such at PTA meetings, Open House, and dances.  Uniforms will not be required for Picture Days. 

SHIRTS:

Pullover Polo shirts that button at the top and have collars are the only style permitted. Shirts must be one solid color of white, blue, or yellow.  Short or long sleeved polo shirts are permitted, depending on the weather. 
 
Sleeveless attire and T-shirts are NOT permitted.  Students may wear white t-shirts (without writing or logos) under their polo shirts, as long as they do not hang out under the sleeves or at the bottom of the shirt.  Shirts may not have any logo, advertisement, writing, or screen print (i.e., Gap, Aeropostle, FUBU, Spider-man, Sponge Bob, etc.).  Shirts may be un-tucked, but may not be longer than 3-4” below the waist. 

SWEATSHIRTS:

Sweatshirts may be worn in the classroom as long as they are solid white, blue or yellow with no writing or logos on them.

BOTTOM WEAR:

Students must wear solid khaki, navy or black pants, cargo pants, or shorts.  All bottom wear must be hemmed or cuffed.  Skirts, skorts, Capri pants, or jumpers may also be worn by female students.  All bottom wear must be worn at the waist.  Shorts, skirts, skorts, and jumpers must extend to fingertip length or longer.  Belts are required for all pants that are not fitted at the waist to avoid low-worn "sag and drag" pants.  Clothing that does NOT qualify are jeans, leggings (unless they are worn under jumpers or skirts), tight pants, baggy or wide-leg pants, oversized or denim overalls.  Rolling up of one pants is prohibited.

SHOES: 

Students are required to wear tennis or athletic shoes every day (Monday through Friday).  Boots, sandals, clogs, crocs, bubble slides, bedroom shoes, etc… are not allowed.  If shoes have laces, they must be tied.  

HATS AND HEAD DRESSINGS:

Hats, caps, toboggans, hoods, wave caps, scarves, bandannas, combs, or any other headwear are not to be worn in the building.  

OUTER WEAR:

Any heavy or bulky coats, jackets, or other outerwear may be worn to school.  Upon classroom arrival, they must be put in the student’s assigned cubby or closet.  Heavy coats, jackets, coats/jackets with hoods or pockets are not worn in the classroom.  Students should dress in layers during winter months for their comfort for the instructional day.  Teachers may use discretion if unusually cool temperatures warrant using outerwear in class (i.e., power outage, heat maintenance problem, etc.) 

GRACE PERIOD:

New students enrolling during the year will have a 10 school day grace period.  New students will be loaned a uniform to wear at school during this period.  After this time, the student is expected to be in compliance with the school policy.  All rising and returning students should comply with the uniform dress code policy on the opening day of school each year. 

COMPLIANCE:

If a student is unable to wear the school uniform to school due to temporary and extenuating circumstances (such as a house fire, home displacement, etc…) a clean, used uniform will be available for the student to check out for the day at school.  This is an emergency procedure only, and the uniform will be left at the school at the end of the school day.  

Students are expected to dress according to the School Uniform Policy.  Blatant refusal to follow the uniform policy (sagging pants, wearing hats, etc...) while at school could result in disciplinary actions.  The first and second willful violation of the dress code, the student will be warned and the parent will be called.  Continued failure to comply could result in after-school or in-school detention.  REPEATED UNIFORM VIOLATIONS WILL BE TREATED AS INSUBORDINATION AND COULD RESULT IN SUSPENSION FROM SCHOOL.

Parents are responsible for providing the appropriate clothing for their students according to the school policy.  Allowances will be made for any accommodations in the policy for religious observances or health reasons.  Parents need to speak with the school administration if there are special needs or considerations.  Documentation for some policy exemptions may be required.
