     First Quarter Goals

    Math : counts to 10; recognizes numbers 0-10 and puts them in sets; compares two objects and can tell how they are alike and different; understands position words ( up, down, inside, over, under, around, etc.); comparing numbers - more, less, equal; knows shapes, square, circle, rectangle, cone, sphere, hexagon; sorts 

    Reading: begins to name kindergarten sight words; begins to recognize all upper and lower case letters; understands rhyming words; begins to use letter sound association; understands book and print awareness.

    Writing: draws characters and settings - writes words/simple sentences to go with picture.  Watches teacher model writer's workshop.  Writing happens daily!

      Second Quarter Goals

    Math: recognizes 0-20 and makes sets with 0-20; can count to 50, sorts and classifies by size, shape, color, and kind; solve addition and subtraction word problems within 5 by using objects or drawings to represent the problem. 

    Reading:  names kindergarten sight words; recognizes ALL upper and lower case letters; understands rhyming words; uses letter sound association; understands book and print awareness; independently reads on grade level and begins to use reading strategies.

    Writing:  draws picture to match story written; can read own story; writes or copies some words from his/her environment as well as using some invented spelling.  Becomes involved in Writer's Workshop.  Writing happens daily!

     Third Quarter Goals

    Math: recognizes/writes/makes sets numbers 0-20.  Can count to 100 and count by 10's to 100.  Can recognize, build and draw 2-D shapes:  rectangle, square, circle, triangle, hexagon.  Can recognize and build 3-D shapes:  cone, sphere, cube, cylinder.  Can do word problems with adding and subtraction.

    Reading: names sight words (and can name words on 1st and 2nd grade list); recognizes ALL capital and lower case letters; identifies, understands, and can name rhyming words; uses letter sound association; understands book and print awareness; independently reads on grade level and is able to use simple reading strategies.

    Writing: matches drawn picture to written text;  writes more than one sentence using environmental print as well as invented spelling to create new words.  Is involved in Writer's Workshop.  Writing happens daily in reading and writing.

    Fourth Quarter Goals

    Math: recognizes/writes/makes sets with numbers 0-20; can add/subtract fluently to 10; understands word problems with adding, subtracting, missing addend, and number combinations.  

    Reading: names kindergarten words (and can name words on 1st and 2nd grade list); recognizes ALL upper and lower case letters and can tell sounds of all letters; understands and names rhyming words; uses some blends, digraphs, and word families when decoding words; understands book and print awareness; independently reads on grade level is able to use reading strategies.

    Writing: writes at least 2 sentences that matches drawn picture.  Continues to use environmental print along with invented spelling to develop stories.  Is involved in Writer's Workshop.  Writing happens daily in reading and writing.
