•                               The World Welcome, Engineers!
Hi!  My name is Mrs. Lisa Menten and I will be the Social Studies teacher for your child this year.  I am truly excited to have the pleasure of teaching your child!  I have been married for 20 years to my husband, Chris, and we have two wonderful daughters, Stephanie (18) and Katherine (13).  I enjoy traveling, reading, playing tennis, gardening, spending time with my family, and cheering for the Tarheels.  I am a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a certification in grades K-6 to teach all subjects and have 11 years of teaching experience.   I have high expectations of each of my students and look forward to a successful year!
For Social Studies in 1st Quarter, we will be studying the units of Human Geography, Early Humans and the Rise of Civilization, the Mesopotamia, Ancient Egypt, and Ancient Greece.  Your child will be creating an interactive student folder for each civilization (ISF) which will be a window for you, the parent, to see what your child is learning.  I encourage you to monitor these folders and discuss the contents with your child.  The ISF is vital to your child's success in Social Studies.  We will have homework occasionally in this class to finish classwork, a project, or to study concepts for a quiz or test. Interactive student folders (ISF) will be collected after each unit and your child will be given several days prior notice to make sure it is completed.
Late work will not be accepted unless your child has been absent.  Each of my students should strive to be respectful, responsible, prepared and ALWAYS give it their best!  If ever you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at anytime.
