    North Carolina Children's Book Award
I serve as Chairman of the North Carolina Children's Book Award Committee. This program is a very important part of the media program at Morgan Elementary. There are many awards programs for children's literature, but all are selected by adults. I feel it is vital to give children a voice concerning what they believe to be quality literature and this awards program gives them that opportunity.

Children from all across our state nominate titles each year beginning in November. Our committee of school and public librarians then select the top 15 for both a picture book category, and a junior book category. These nominated titles are then voted on by students in North Carolina in March of each year. After counting each vote, I announce the winning titles in April. We have over 750 schools and public libraries that participate each year.
