• Helpful Tips for the Month of May

    Dear Parents and Guardians:

I am so proud of all my students.  They have worked hard all year long :)  At the end of this month we will be taking our End-of-Grade tests.  Here are some tips:

#1.  Tell your child not to "stress out" about the test(s) but rather explain to them that this is a great opportunity for them to show what they know and how much they've grown.

#2.  Make sure your child gets a good night's sleep before the tests.

#3.  Make sure your child eats a good breakfast before the tests, whether it be at home or at school

    Sincerely,

    Mr. Dudley :)

    Dear Parents & Guardians:

I hope you are enjoying Spring Break with your families :)  The best tip I can give at this time is to spend some time together and let everyone rest up.  It will prepare us all for that long stretch between now and June 11th.  Don't worry- we'll make it !

    Sincerely,

    Dear Parents/Guardians:

Please review multiplication facts with your child.  If a child does not know ALL their timestables, it will be harder and harder for them in Math as each year passes.  Here are some good websites to check out:

  • Helpful Tips for the Month of January

Posted by Michael Dudley on 1/1/2013
Happy New Year!!  It's hard to believe it's 2013 already....  Now that we've turned the corner and the Holidays are over it's time to look forward to Spring.  It's also (unfortunately) flu and cold season.  We have to be careful this time of year.   A healthy child will always be better prepared for the academic rigor leading up to the EOGs.  Here are some tips to keep your child healthy:

    1.  Make sure your child washes their hands frequently and observes good hand washing techniques.  This means scrubbing their hands for at least 20 seconds while lathering up.  Hand sanitizer is also a good way to keep clean.

    2.  If your child has to sneeze show them the proper way to do it.  That means sneezing into the inside of their elbow, NOT their hand.  Sneezing into ones hand then giving someone else a "high-5" is the most  effective way to spead germs and should be avoided at all cost.

    3.  Make sure your child eats healthy foods.  This includes whole grains, and plenty of fruits and veggies.  A well nourished body can fight off infection better.

    4.  Make sure your child gets enough sleep each night.

    5.  And last but not least:  Please follow our district's sick child policy which can be found on the link below:

Make sure your child reads at least 20-30 minutes per night.  If they're an independent reader, let them choose both fiction and non-fiction that interests them.  If they're still struggling with identifying words, choose a book at their level and listen to them read, encourage them, and assist in decoding words when necessary.  Ask your child questions such as:  "Where does the story take place?"  "Who is the main character?" "What struggles/problems does the main character face?", etc.  This will build the framework of comprehension that your child will need to be successful in every subject.
