    Reading

    Reading:  In reading, the students will read big books, listen to stories, reading stories in our anthologies, and enjoy choosing books for self-selected reading.  We will send Take Home Readers in their homework folder   Please write down all books read on their Reading log which is stapled in the BLACK homework folder.  It is essential that you child reads aloud to you or you read to your child at least 15 minutes EACH night.

    Writing

    Writing:   The state of North Carolina starts teaching the writing process in kindergarten.  In Second grade we will write sentences and paragraphs using describing words and do some creative writing. We have a big focus on Non- Fiction writing this year.  A guideline for writing will be sent at a later time.

     





     
    Math 
     

    Math:  The children will use literature, hands-on activities, and paper and pencil work.  Students will need to practice their addition and subtraction facts to 18 (memorize).     Science/Social Studies

     We integrate many of our social studies and science into our reading.  We will on occassion have projects/homework in this area.
