• Dear Downtown School Family,

    Welcome back to school!!!  We are gearing up for a wonderful year of supporting our Downtown School teachers, students, and programs through fun and innovative fundraising initiatives.  I hope that you will help by sharing your time, talents, and resources.

    The Downtown School PTA exists to support ALL of our students by sponsoring programs and materials to enrich every child's education and development. Due to your overwhelming support last year, we far exceeded our goal. A bulk of those dollars went to support our Teacher Grants program, playground maintenance, new audio equipment for the Multi-Purpose Room and other school needs. This year, we will continue to support school initiatives, such as the new Maker Space and the Live Learn Local event.

    The PTA fundraising committee is strategizing ways to limit the frequency of requests for support while growing the amount of dollars that are raised and providing fun community building activities.  We are also discussing ways to effectively communicate our activities with parents.

    Throughout the year, you may choose to support the PTA (and ultimately, our children’s education) by making a tax deductible donation directly to the Downtown School PTA.  One hundred percent of dollars donated in this manner goes to the PTA.  Many employers will also match these donated dollars, so please inquire.

    This fall we are selling the Attractions Books, which are full of coupons for local restaurants and area attractions. The books are $25.00 each and the PTA will be receiving $12.50 from each book we sell.  These books make great gifts for neighbors, friends, baby-sitters or just about anyone else. This spring, Sally Gupton Photography will be returning to take beautiful portraits of our students. Please consider supporting this fundraiser.

    The Downtown School Annual Book Fair will take place in the fall (November 5 – 8) and spring (TBA). This is always a great time to buy books, and encourage all of our children to read.  With funds from previous book fairs we have been able to provide much needed reference materials and books to our classroom teachers and the school library.

    Finally, there are initiatives in place that help our school in substantial ways without costing you a dime:

    • Volunteer Your Time
    • Collect Box Tops for Education
    • Register your Harris Teeter VIC Card, Lowes Foods Rewards Card, & Target RedCard
    • Use your Publix card
