• Parents,
Please make sure your child does his or her homework.  This is vital in doing well in this class.  Practicing math through homework and other assignments will enable your child to become more proficient in math.  Just like in anything else, to be good at something ou must practice.
When your child is doing homework, make sure they are doing it with pencil and paper, and not just trying to read.  You can't learn math by only reading the examples.  It requires understanding and practice by working out the problems (sometimes more than once).
Make sure your child comes to class prepared (see Necessities section on welcome page).  Too many times kids come to math class without a pencil.  We do not do math in ink.
Tutoring in math will be available every Wednesday (beginning date will be announced) in my classroom after school and  I recommend it for any student who is struggling in math.  Times are 2:45 - 4:00.  Transportation is provided for students who ride the bus.  The after-school activity bus departs at 4:30.  If you are picking your child up please be here promptly at 4:15.
I look forward to working with your children this school year.  I will try to instill confidence in all my students to help them do well and to realize how important math is and will be in their future.  I will treat your children as my own, but at the same time, I need the support of their parents to help students reallize their full potential.  If you have any questions, please email me a tahinton@wsfcs.k12.nc.us.
