Executive Director of Equity, Access, and Acceleration
Effie McMillian joined WSFCS, October 2019, as its Executive Director of Equity, Access, and Acceleration. Prior to joining WSFCS, she served in the Guilford County Schools system for 21 years as a teacher, literacy coach, K-6 English Language Arts Curriculum Specialist, and Supervisor of Early Literacy Project for African American males in grades K-3. In more recent years, she served as the Supervisor of Equity in the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for GCS. She has also served as an adjunct instructor at her alma mater, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, in the School of Education for the past 15 years. As a passionate educator, it has always been McMillian's mission to promote and empower students to reach his or her fullest potential and support other educators in creating inclusive and equitable learning environments.
Effie McMillian earned National Board Certification in 2004 in the area of Early Childhood Generalist and is proud to have been recognized at the Harris Teeter, Teacher of Excellence in 2008. She graduated with a B.S. in Elementary Education from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. She also earned a M.S.A. from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership at High Point University.
Effie is a native of Clinton, NC and is a product of Sampson County Schools. She resides in Guilford County with her husband, Scot, daughter, Paige, and her two Cocker Spaniels, Cooper and HarleyQuinn.
