Degrees and Certifications:
I have been a teacher forever! It all started in the basement of my home when I was a little girl growing up in Silver Spring, Md with a chalkboard and dolls. I traded those dolls in for real-life boys and girls after graduating from Elon (then) College. I am a life-long learner (my hope for each of my students). I went to graduate school at UNCG and received a MEd. in Reading (K-12). I am also proud to say I am a National Board Certified Teacher. I have taught in Greensboro, Miami, Fla., and Winston-Salem....K, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades, as well as being a Literacy Specialist for many years. After teaching the "litttle ones" all this time, I was eager and ready to start a new chapter in my career. My wish and hope is that I will now influence "tomorrow's teachers and care givers to children" and nuture your knowledge and love for children!
Happiness starts at home.....and I have been blessed with a wonderful family... Derry, my husband of 34 years, our daughter, Laura, a Kindergarten teacher herself in Sun Valley, Idaho, and our son, Alan, who lives in St Simons Island, Georgia and is a professional tour caddie. My interests... traveling, gardening, watching football, golf, and nordic sports (I know that's unusual for NC but I love the outdoors in the winter: XC skiing, downhill skiing, and snowshoeing when we go to out west for our winter break).
