• Parent Advisory Council
    March 23, 2013

    1. Dr. Kenneth Simington, the assistant superintendent of instructional services, called the meeting to order, and Aleta Bitting gave a brief welcome.

    2. General Counsel Ali Tomberlin gave a presentation about school-sponsored and non-school-sponsored clubs in high schools.

    3. Tomberlin also talked about a possible lice policy and how students with lice and nits should be handled. Principals are split on whether students should be kept out of school while they have lice, and parents were similarly split. Tomberlin will continue to work on a possible policy that will go to the Board of Education.

    4. Velvet Simington, the program manager for mathematics, gave a presentation about the new mathematics curriculum standards for middle and high schools in the Common Core.

    5. Dr. Simington talked about issues related to the federal sequestration. The district will not be affected in this fiscal year and has taken it into consideration in planning the budget for next year.

The next PAC meeting is 6 p.m. on April 16 in Room 219 of the Education Building. For more information, please call the Office of Marketing and Communications at 727-2696.
