Safe Schools / Healthy Students
This initiative focuses on a combination of school violence and crisis intervention issues. The major goals are to
(1) implement a system-wide program for intervening with behaviorally at-risk students;
(2) deliver training and consultation to school personnel; and
(3) develop a knowledge base of current research and ideas as they relate to school violence and crisis intervention.
Primarily targeted at school psychologists, counselors, social workers, and school administrators, this initiative aims to develop a foundation of knowledge, skills, and competencies to identify, intervene, and respond more effectively with those students deemed at-risk for violent behavior. In particular, the work associated with the mental health component involves developing referral procedures, crisis response and suicide intervention protocols, and modules for training school personnel who are most likely to provide mental health services to students.
