This club is all about education encouragement. We want to show girls that they have a future, today. The four posts which support Women in S.T.E.A.M. are mentorship, guest speakers, peer tutoring, and a newsletter. Mentorship will be about pairing girls with a “big sister” to help them get involved at Atkins and with S.T.E.A.M. in the community. The guest speakers will be giving girls opportunities and advice about getting involved with S.T.E.A.M both locally and internationally. Peer tutoring will be available for girls who are struggling in their own S.T.E.A.M. classes or for those who simply want to learn more about S.T.E.A.M. The newsletter will feature both current and past events of globally known S.T.E.A.M. women. The ladies at Winston-Salem State University have been kind enough to partner with us, advertising Atkins Women in S.T.E.A.M. at their middle and high school recruitment events. We would love to also branch out to elementary schools. Girls of all ages are welcome in S.T.E.A.M!
Logistically, the club would like to meet on the 1st and 3rd Fridays of the month, from 3:45PM-4:45PM. Each month we will be focusing on an element of S.T.E.A.M. The 1st Friday (aka. First week) will be focusing on S.T.E.A.M. at Atkins. We will be bringing in local guest speakers and skyping with international speakers to inspire the girls to pursue careers in S.T.E.A.M. The 3rd Friday (aka. Second week) will be focusing on S.T.E.A.M. in the community. Whether this be taking the group of girls to recruit and share at other schools, or taking the group of girls to an event of their own to participate in, this week will be hands on and all about experiencing S.T.E.A.M. firsthand.
