Welcome to First Grade! My name is Lucille May and I am thrilled to be a part of the first grade team at Sherwood Forest Elementary School. I have taught first grade for the last two years as a full-time classroom teacher and I have another nine years experience as a first grade primary reading teacher. I feel truly blessed to have been able to call Sherwood Forest my home for the last eleven years. There is no where else I would rather teach and first grade is the grade level for me! Prior to my years in North Carolina, I was raised and lived on Long Island, New York. I completed my Bachelor of Art's degree in Psychology at Stony Brook University and my Master's of Science in Education degree at Dowling College. On Long Island, I held a variety of teaching positions.
I have spent the last eleven years teaching first grade because it is my favorite grade to teach! I enjoy giving young children a strong foundation in reading. My hope is to not only give your child all of the strategies needed to be a successful reader, but also to foster a love of reading and learning. I also enjoy empowering students with knowledge on different strategies to solve a variety of math problems, Your child will learn quickly that Mrs. May loves math!
When I am not at Sherwood Forest I am with my three children and husband. My two daughters are in third grade and my son is a freshman in high school. I also enjoy reading, traveling, swimming, and catching up with friends and family.
I look forward to meeting you all soon!
Mrs. May
