    Weekly Announcements- 8/5/20 

     

    This year is starting with 9 weeks of Remote Learning. Students will be taught virtually online using CANVAS learning platform to post instructional materials. Microsoft Teams and Zoom for Education will be used for video conferencing.  The first day of school is Monday, August 17. 

    Log-In Information: It is critical that students know how to access their WSFCS email and Home Base Apps. Parents should also have access to Parent Portal to check grades. Go here to sign up if you need to. https://www.wsfcs.k12.nc.us/Page/769

    Contact Information Updates: It is also critical that we have correct email and phone numbers for parents so that we can communicate with you during Remote Learning. Call the main office or email Ms. Dones to update your information. (edonesamalbert@wsfcs.k12.nc.us)

    Remote Learning Bell Times:  Unlike the spring, this fall our students will follow their class bell schedule and log on at the designated class times to have face-to-face instruction from their teachers. During remote learning we will be adjusting our bell schedule to start one hour later.  Visit our website under the Students Tab for the class schedule for each grade level.

    Chromebook and Hot Spot Requests: 7th and 8th grade Wiley students who have their device from the spring can keep it for this year.

    • EVERY student with a school device must complete a new Technology Agreement form for this year and return it to Wiley via email or drop off.
    • Other students who need a device should use the following link to request one for this year https://forms.gle/UzLw2HMYRBk86bDG6.  Bring the Technology Agreement form with you when you come to pick it up. 
    • We will be distributing devices (Chromebooks and Internet Hot Spots) on Wednesday, August 12 - Friday, August 14 between 9-2 on the Wiley car lot.  There are extended hours on Thursday until 4:00. 

    Schedules: Student schedules will be available in PowerSchool next week. Every effort has been made to appropriately assign students to classes. We are continuing to make changes and updates, so any schedule you see now is not final and is subject to change.  No schedule change requests will be considered during the first 10 days of school.

    6th grade Virtual Orientation: This event will be on August 13th from 12:00-2:30. Information will be posted on the Wiley website on the Rising 6th grade Information page on how to get logged in, along with other important information. This time is focused on students, but parents are welcome to participate as well.

    Virtual Open House: This event will also be on August 13th from 5:00 to 7:00 for all students and parents. Please visit the Wiley website, Teams Tab for access information for each grade level and team next Thursday to participate. You are encouraged to view teacher videos on August 13th prior to Open House. During the Open House, you will use the links posted to “visit” teachers and ask any questions that you still have. 

    Immunizations: 7th grade students are reminded that there are required immunizations and health assessments. A flier was mailed to your house with more detailed information.  Contact your pediatrician to ensure you are up do date. 

    Yearbooks:  If you ordered a yearbook, be assured that you will get it!  They will arrive the first week ofAugust.You will be able to pick them up during our device distribution on August 12- August 14 between 9-2 on the Wiley carline.

    Support Wiley While Shopping for Groceries!
    We hope you will support Wiley by linking your Harris Teeter VIC Card, our code is 2187.  You must re-link each year.  The cashier can assist or you can do it online  
     
    Students will also be collecting Box Tops for Education from a variety of products.  Thank you for your support.  Bring your BOXTOP$ to your homeroom teacher! Wiley is a collection site for the coupons found on many grocery store items. It is free money for our school, so please be on the lookout.
