The number of the day changes each day!
number work

This Week We are Working on.....

  • Every day in our class begins with the number of the day. This important number work reinforces number sense concepts and helps us to reach our goals in "Numbers in Base Ten". The number of the day corresponds to the number of days we have been in school.

Check out our classmate on day two of school!

Take a closer look at his number work.

Do you see that when I taught how to use our extended number line on day one, Brayden used that concept to independently determine that 2-10=-8 on day two? Have you ever seen a first grader work with negative numbers before? As the numbers get larger we will continue working with ten more and ten less and the children will determine what rules or patterns they see in ten less and ten more as they move up and down the 120 chart. This is one of my favorite parts of the day and we follow it up with a challenging problem solving activity every day!

I will share more later on the types of problem solving we do and our goals and expectations for first quarter math.
