Math:  This quarter we will spend a lot of time looking at and learning about measurements, data, and algebra.  Measurements include estimating lengths in standard units and relating addition and subtraction to a length within 100.  We will also so how this data is represented and and interpreted.

We will continue working in our Imagine It series!  We are currently studing the unit of Let's Explore.  We are looking at all of the ways to explore in our own backyards!  Our next unit will be Around the Town.  Be sure to ask your child what story we are reading that week.  We will be using various comprehension strategies including author's purpose, compare and contrast, squencing, as well as others.  We also are talking and learning about the different genres of books.

We will continue to work with personal narratives and writing from a variety of prompts.  I will model the writing process each time and allow them to write on their own as well.  We are working on following all of the steps within the writing process for each piece that we write.

We will spend this quarter learning about weather.  We will look at patterns of weather and the factors that affect the weather.  We will also be looking at genetics and remembering that organisms differ from or are similar to their parents based on the characteristics of that organism.

    Social Studies:
This quarter we will look at and understand the basic economic concepts.  This includes looking at ways in which businesses in the community meet the needs and wants of the community members.  The class will also look at the roles of both the producer and the consumer!
