Parent Advisory CouncilOctober 22, 20141. Superintendent Beverly Emory talked about the new meeting structure for 2014-15. We having quarterly meetings, and two will be in the morning in the hopes that more people will be able to attend. Dr. Emory also is having community listening sessions this fall and again in the spring.2. Dr. Emory gave an overview of the district's new goals and priorities that were approved by the Board of Education in August. You can see the goals and priorities on this page.3. Kenneth Simington, the assistant superintendent of instructional and student services, presented changes to the grading scale and course weights that will begin in 2015-16. The State Board of Education approved the changes. The grading scale will be a 10-point scale beginning with next year's freshman class. Grades between 90 and 100 will be an A, 80 and 90 will be a B, and so on. Course weights will change so that honors courses receive one-half a quality point and AP courses receive one quality point. You can see his presentation here.4. Kevin Sherrill, the chief technology officer, presented a technology update. He talked about student email addresses, the bring-your-own-device initiative and the expansion of the district's wireless infrastructure.
