Ms. Elisabeth Stephens

My name is Elisabeth Stephens, and I am beginning my eleventh year as an ESL teacher at Griffith Elementary.  I was born in western North Carolina and have spent almost all my life in this beautiful state.  At Wake Forest University, I studied English and math, then went on to study more English at Princeton and to teach literature and writing at UNC-Greensboro.  After spending a year and a half teaching college students in China, I became interested in teaching English as a second language and completed a teaching certification at Salem College.  Now I'm working on a math certification at UNC-G.  It seems I just love studying!

My husband and I have two daughters and sixteen blueberry bushes.  Some of my favorite things to do are reading, cooking, working in the garden, practicing yoga, and visiting new places.

Here's a favorite quote of mine about learning languages--it's supposedly a Czech proverb: "You live a new life for every new language you speak.  If you only know one langauge, you only live once."
