EOQ Review Questions and How to Solve
1) Unit Rate: Sarah is making cakes. Her original recipe calls for 14 cups of flour for 7 cakes. How many cups of flour are needed to make 1 cake?
How to solve: 14 / 7= 2 cups of flour per cake.
2) Scale Drawing: Logan made a scale drawing of a rectangular room in his house. The actual length of the room is 24 ft. The scale used to make the drawing is 1/2 in = 2 ft. What is the length, in inches, of the room on the drawing?
How to solve: .5 in / 2 ft = _in. / 24 ft Cross multiply and divide by the number across from the unknown.
24 x .5= 12/2 = 6 inches
3) Percent off: A sweater is priced at $19.75. If it is on sale for 20% off and there is 7% sales tax, how much will it cost after tax?
How to solve:
Find 20% of $19.75. 19.75 x .20 = $3.95 This is the amount that you will save.
You need to subtract this amount saved from the total 19.75-3.95 =$15.80
Now that you have your new total, find 7% of $15.80 15.80 x .07 = 1.106 = 1.11 ( round to the nearest cent)
Because this is sales tax you add this to your sale price 15.80 + 1.11 = $ 16.91 is the cost of the sweater
4) Simple Interest: You open an account with $500. You earn 4.5% simple annual interest. What is your balance after 8 years?
How to solve:
KNOW THE FORMULA!!! I=prt
I = .045 x 500 x 8 = $180 This is what you earn in interest.
Add what you earned in interest to the amount you have in your account. 180 + 500 = $680 is your balance after 8 years.
