• IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR VOLUNTEER DRIVER APPLICANTS

Volunteer driver applicants must register online by completing the volunteer application for the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School (WSFCS) district. They must select “volunteer driver” in the volunteer interest section of the application. The applicant must contact the Volunteer Faculty Advisor for Hanes Magnet School (Dr. Deidra Brown) and request a copy of the “Driver Certification” form. Dr. Brown may be contacted by phone at: (336) 703-4172 or via email at: dbrown5@wsfcs.k12.nc.us.

Volunteer driver applicants must submit the following documents to the Volunteer Faculty Advisor (Dr. Deidra Brown) after they have completed the online volunteer application: (a) completed Driver Certification Form; photocopies of :(b) driver’s license; (c) vehicle registration; and (d) proof of motor vehicle insurance. Once the Volunteer Faculty Advisor has received these documents, they will be forwarded to the WSFCS Human Resources Department. The WSFCS Human Resources Department will run a driving record check and indicate at the bottom of the Driver Certification Form whether permission to transport students is granted or denied.

Once a decision has been made, the WSFCS Human Resources Department will return a copy of the Driver Certification Form with attachments to the email address provided by the applicant. On that email, the WSFCS Human Resources Department will copy the principal of the school (or schools) indicated on the Driver Certification Form. Once the driver is approved, it is the principal’s responsibility to ensure that the proper parent permission is in place to transport students. The WSFCS Human Resources Department will maintain original copies of the Driver Certification Forms.

Please allow five (5) business days to process and return the Driver Certification Forms. Please note that certifications will expire on September 1 of each year. The heading of the Driver Certification Form will be updated annually to reflect the current school year so that it can be easily determined if an individual has a current approval on file. Annual recertification is required to ensure that the driver still meets the requirements of the policy (i.e., still has a suitable vehicle with working seatbelts, driver’s license has not been revoked or expired, motor vehicle registration and motor vehicle insurance are still current). Additional copies of the Driver Certification Form are available in the Hanes Magnet School Main Office.
