Chorus - Ms. Church
Whitaker Chorus is for 4th and 5th graders. This is a non-audition group. We meet on Mondays from 2:30-3:30 pm. Fourth and fifth graders sing for PTA programs and athletic events. If you have a love for singing, are willing to have a great attitude, and will work well with others, this is the club for you.
Art Club - Ms. Chambers
Ms. Chambers offers an art club for 4th graders and one for 5th graders. The groups meet on alternating Thursdays after school. Participants work on a variety of art projects over the course of the year.
Wheel Power - Dr. Reed
Wheel Power and Company is an after-school physical education club open to all 4th and 5th graders. Participants can learn how to ride a unicycle, walk on stilts and use a pogo hopper. Additional activities include flag/ribbon ball twirlers, jump roping and juggling. Wheel Power performs in the Winston-Salem Holiday Parade, various community events, and the end-of-year P.E. performance. Practices take place after school from 2:30-3:15 pm.
Battle of the Books - Ms. Weeks
Battle of the Books (BOB) is a book competition initiated by the North Carolina School Library Media Association (NCSLMA.) A state committee puts together the list of books for the school year, and teams compete by answering questions about the books. The Whitaker team is open to 4th and 5th graders who are willing to read - and re-read - the books on the list, so they can become "experts" on the books. The team meets on Monday afternoons from 2:30-3:30 pm to prepare for the district competition in the spring. You can learn more about Battle of the Books and see this year's booklist by visiting the NCSLMA website: http://www.ncslma.org/ebob
Trailblazers - Dr. Reed and Mrs. Moore
Trailblazers is a wellness-based service club open to all third, fourth and fifth graders. Our mission is to give back to the community by volunteering our time and energy to serve others. Students will help with recycling, decorate cars to participate in the Whitaker Derby Parade of Cars fundraiser, as well as additional service projects at school and in the community. The club meets after-school from 2:30-3:15 pm.
