Principal: Mr. G. Leonard Starnes, II
The eldest son of an educator who served as his 8th Grade Teacher, Mr. Starnes learned the values of hard work, commitment, and passion for children at an early age. Those values earned him an academic scholarship through Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools and the United Negro College Fund to Virginia Union University where he majored in Business: Secondary Education.
For 10 years, G. Leonard Starnes II has enriched the lives of children, adults, and communities as an education pioneer and leader. With school turnaround and innovation as the backdrop for his school leadership efforts, Mr. Starnes has marshaled scholars and staff members alike toward academic and instructional excellence. Leonard has served as Principal, Assistant Principal, Grants Manager, Director, and Teacher, in both public and charter education, exemplifying his relentless belief in the benefits of qualify education and producing results of children, especially young men of color. In addition to his service as principal, he holds an appointment as Professor at Northern Virginia Community College in the Division of Student Life.
Known by his colleagues, as mover and shaker, Leonard has been recognized as the 2011 Virginia Outstanding Business Teacher of the Year and is member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. He has served on numerous board and committees including the Board of Directors for the Virginia Future Business Leaders of America and Phi Beta Lambda Foundation, the Board of Directors for the New Generations Federal Credit Union, and as the State Treasurer for Learning Forward Virginia, to name a few.
