I hope the school year has started successfully for all of you. There is an annual requirement to notify parents/families of students attending a school identified as TSI-AT, Targeted Support & Improvement Additional Targeted Support and TSI – CU, Targeted Support & Improvement-Consistently Underperforming. Since there is no testing data available for the 2019-20 school year, the list of identified schools remains the same for the 2020-21 school year, and our school is still designated as TSI-AT and TSI-CU. As stated in the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Section 1111(c)(4)(D)(i), North Carolina is required to identify schools for targeted support and improvement. TSI-AT schools in North Carolina are those that have a subgroup that is underperforming. TSI-CU schools in North Carolina are those that have one or more of the same subgroups underperforming for the most recent year and previous year. The intent of this opportunity is to improve educational outcomes for all students, close achievement gaps, increase equity, and improve the quality of instruction.
As a TSI-AT and TSI-CU school, we are required to develop a comprehensive plan with parent, family and community input that specifically addresses how the school will improve student achievement. The district will support and monitor the progress of our school.
By utilizing the school improvement process, our school will focus on these areas:
- Examine school data to identify strengths and gaps
- Conduct a root cause analysis to develop specific strategies for improvement ● Monitor and evaluate strategies and action steps for effectiveness
- The district provided a school MTSS position that works directly with students needing support and teachers to identify appropriate resources.
Thank you for allowing me to share this information with you and thank you for supporting our efforts to provide your child with a quality education.
