Hello, and welcome to the web page for Mr. Hanf's journalism and publications classes. It is hard to believe I am in the fifth year of my teaching career after spending 13 years as a sportswriter. I enjoyed journalism then as much as I do now, and that love of finding a good story and telling it to the world is what I hope to instill in the students involved with publications at RJR.
My Intro students will learn the ins and outs of all things media. Then they get to be the eyes, ears and voices of all things RJR as part of the Pine Whispers newspaper staff or Black & Gold yearbook staff. Both publications boast proud histories that are only getting better with time. Many of us will get to spend four years together adding to traditions that started in 1911 (yearbook) and 1924 (newspaper). It should be a fun and rewarding journey.
    Staples Reward A Classroom
Do you have a Staples Rewards card? If so, you can hitch your Staples spending to MY classroom rewards account by following this link. Every dollar you spend helps me buy things for YOUR student! Thanks for your support! (Search only for "Hanf" in North Carolina to best find me -- Staples doesn't like our hyphenated city name! Please don't link to Mrs. Hanf by mistake or I'll be very jealous!)

    • A North Carolina native, thanks to being born at Seymour Johnson Air FoUofIrce Base in Goldsboro
    • A proud graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, one of the coolest places on Earth! (Pictured here, the Quad)
    • Formerly a professional journalist, the last six years in High Point and six prior to that in Salisbury. I got to cover plenty of high school games as well as events such as the ACC Tournament, NCAA Final Four (Duke's 2001 championship), and the Carolina Panthers.
    • A happy member of an education family: My wife teaches middle schoolers, our son has just started his journey at Wiley Middle and our daughter is a happy fourth-grader.
