Ms. Amanda Ross

Teacher Assistants:  Sheri Grubbs and Tamika Inzar

I am Amanda Ross and this is my first year at The Special Children’s School. I have been teaching special education for four years and have found my true calling in this profession. As I grew up my days of teaching Barbie dolls led to reading to the elementary students when I was in middle school, teaching a theater course in high school to underclassmen, and creating engaging activities as a camp counselor for the Autism Society of North Carolina. Each of these events made me feel inspired to continue growing as an educator. While studying special education and dance studies at Appalachian State University, I had the opportunity to be a student teacher in multiple placements for three years. Each of these placements were different grade levels (K-12) and different classroom environments (inclusion, adapted curriculum, occupational courses, and resource). These memories always encouraged me to keep learning, growing, and teaching. I have taught middle and high school special education classes the past three years and have felt very grateful to find The Special Children’s School where I see a bright future. Outside of teaching, I have always had a passion for dance and being outdoors. I love finding ways to incorporate these areas into my teaching. I enjoy whitewater kayaking, hiking with my dog, Teddy, and going on cross-country road trips each summer. I moved from Raleigh, NC in 2022 and have found a love for the Winston-Salem area and community.
