    RJR SRO - Deputy Burton

    Deputy Burton

The School Resource Officer (SRO) program was first established within the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools system (WS/FCS) in the 1970's. It has since grown to approximately 45 law enforcement officers providing needed services to numerous schools across Forsyth County.

The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, Kernersville Police Department, and the Winston-Salem Police Department all provide law enforcement officers to the SRO program. These officers are commonly referred to as SROs. They are State certified, sworn law enforcement officers that have received specialized training. SROs are supervised by their respective agencies, dictated by federal, state, and local statutes, and the guidelines of their agencies.

The goal of the SRO program is to provide schools with a positive law enforcement presence, law-related counselor, and law-related instructor. These goals are accomplished by SROs building positive relationships within their schools, providing prevention and education activities, a quick police response to potential crimes, and being readily accessible to parents, students, and the community.

The continued success of the WS/FCS SRO program is founded in the cooperative working relationship between the police agencies, the individual schools, and the community. We encourage you to stop by and meet RJR's SRO.
