We want to thank everyone for being patient during these challenging times and say thank you for your continued support in helping keep our students and staff safe. For students to stay in school, we want to remind everyone of protocols and procedures that are in place. Please remember that masks are required inside all WS/FCS buildings and on transportation, this includes extracurriculars. The Our Way Forward page on our website should be utilized to review all policies, procedures, and FAQ’s. COVID-19 related information is updated daily.
We also want to remind you that if your child is experiencing any symptoms as outlined by the CDC in the StrongSchools NC Toolkit please do not send your child to school. Symptoms include: fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion, runny nose, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea. As noted in the district policies, you will be asked to pick your child up from school if they have any of these symptoms.
If you suspect your child has COVID-19, or another sickness that includes any of the symptoms listed above, please seek medical advice so you can get a definitive answer before returning to school, or plan to have your child complete the exclusion period. Please note that without a documented alternative diagnosis from a health care provider, or a documented negative COVID test from a health care provider, exclusion is required for students with symptoms.
Absences related to COVID are coded as 1D in PowerSchool, for COVID quarantine. Days are considered excused absences. COVID Coordinators notify our attendance clerk when reports are made. Ms. Lena Pontillo-Gwyn is the attendance clerk and she codes students appropriately for their absences. Ms. PG’s email is firstname.lastname@example.org. When students are out due to COVID exposure or for confirmed case, guardians/students can communicate with their teachers to see if assignments can be placed on Canvas.
