STEP-UP; NIH Summer Research Opportunity

    Wake Forest University School of Medicine (WFUSM) received funding in 2022 to serve as a regional coordinating center for the southeast region of the STEP-UP program. Wake Forest will oversee the placement of students in Arkansas, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. Through STEP-UP, dedicated mentors will craft an 8-week summer research experience for bright and eager high school students to give them a unique training experience in research. The program aim is to place students with mentors are universities that are in close proximity to their geographic location, and are also dedicated to expanding virtual options to eliminate barriers to travel.
