Technology Classes for 6th, 7th, and 8th Grades

    East Forsyth Middle School

..... Teaching Philosophy : My name is Doug Moody and I am the teacher for the Technology Classes for 6th, 7th, and 8th Grades. I have over 33 years experience in teaching, both in private school, corporate settings, and in public schools. My goal in teaching technology is to prepare students for the jobs that will be available to them in the FUTURE, not necessarily what is available now. Of course, that requires some forecasting of current trends to try to predict what to teach.

But let's face it - the world of tomorrow is going to look very different than the world of today. Already, many youngsters can navigate the world of technology better than their elders. It is my desire then, to give students an outlet for their natural curiosity, so they can understand the underlying reasons why technology works as it does. I firmly believe it is better to teach principles rather than specifics. If one understands HOW things work, it is then an easy step to use existing new things and invent new things.

.....I hope you will take a few moments to explore these pages, because we do things a little differently than the average class in middle school. It is my belief that children in middle school are discovering so many new things in their young lives that they aren't really sure what they want to do. In fact, that's perfectly natural, and it's OK! Please carefully read the "Useful Links" page for important information about online class access.

.....Nevertheless, as adults, it is our job to help the younger generation make wise choices what they want to do when they "grow up". To that end, these classes explore many options to help them make up their minds.
The website we use every day tells the students what is required. If they finish work in class, then they have no homework. BUT, if they do NOT finish that day's work, then they automatically have homework. I advise asking students to show you their website. It is at http://microdust.com. The students know their login username and password. Ask them to show you!
