"Where it's cool to be smart"
Welcome to the Hanes Magnet School.  We work to provide a quality experience and academic challenge to all of our students.  We have a diverse student body and proudly serve highly academically gifted (HAG), academically gifted, (AG) and other students who desire a rigorous academic program.  Our teachers engage in ongoing professional development and collaboration so that we can meet the special academic and social needs of our students.  We also provide unique extra-curricular and extension opportunities for our students as well, and last year we celebrated the successes of a national runner-up National Academic League team, STEM club participants who competed and placed at both state and national levels, a state science fair winner, a district spelling bee champion, a MathCounts team that earned Gold Level status, and an award winning Band program.  We believe in the importance of providing students with opportunities to showcase their abilities and talents.
Hanes is in its fifth year as a magnet school.  We were recognized by the Magnet Schools of America (MSA) as a School of Distinction during the   2010-11 school year.  Our theme of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math is integrated into our core offerings and highlighted in our flagship Project Lead the Way program, a pre-engineering elective.  We provide extension and enrichment opportunities in STEM areas through our after school clubs, field trips, guest speakers, and integrated classroom projects.  Because we are a magnet school, any student in Forsyth County may choose to attend and benefit from our programs.
Students attending Hanes have the opportunity to earn high school credits during the middle grades years.  Our magnet students may earn credits in math (Algebra I) and foreign language (Latin I, Spanish I).  Our HAG students may earn high school credits for Algebra I, Foreign Language, Environmental Science, and Geometry.
