I received my undergraduate degree in elementary education from UNC-Greensboro and took a job at Paisley Middle School in 1996.  I transferred to Jefferson Middle School when it opened in 1999 and have been here since.  In December of 2010, I earned my Master's degree from Wake Forest University.  Go Deacs!  I have been married for 22 years and have two awesome children.  Paige is a junior at Reagan High School and Drew is a freshman.

In 2010-2011, I was recognized as the Teacher of the Year for Jefferson Middle School and was a top 10 semi-finalist for Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools.  In 2012, I was one of six teachers selected by our district to pilot 1:1 technology in the classroom, thanks to a Race to the Top grant.  This opportunity placed 30 Samsung Galaxy tablets in my classroom and we have used them everyday since.  In 2015, I was awarded the NCTIES Outstanding Educator Award for my work with technology in the classroom which also qualified me for the international equivalent (ISTE) in 2016.

My goal for each child this year is to grow academically and to enjoy coming to school.  I believe that grades are important to students and parents, EOG data is important to our administration, but I am more concerned with GROWTH.  With that said, I will give students the chance to earn the grades that they hope to achieve but they have to put in the work. Being proactive is always better than being reactive.
