    ABOUT MR. RHYMES. . .
    It is a pleasure teaching Language Arts on the 7th grade "Cyclones" team here at Southeast Middle School!  The 2015-2016 school year is my 14th year teaching.  I earned my BA from Winston-Salem State University in 2001 and my Master's Degree from UNC-Greensboro in 2005.  Also, I earned my National Board Certification in 2009.  Although I greatly enjoy working with my students and the other "Cyclones" team teachers, most dear to me is my wonderful family: my wife Dawn and my kids Regan (11 yrs. old) and Will (8 yrs. old).  Also part of our family are our two cats, Buster and Tiger and our dog Mr. Miyagi.  Family support is not only important in my work but in the success of our students as well.  It is my sincere goal that each student grows not only in his/her skill with reading and writing but also in their appreciation of language arts!
    In addition to my love of teaching language arts, I also enjoy sports. This upcoming year I will be coaching both cross country in the fall and track in the spring. Go Jaguars!

    Make-up Work Procedures...

    Students should come see me concerning missing work after an absence. I keep extra copies of most work in the classroom or select assignments on my website. All make-up work should be turned in as soon as possible to avoid point deductions for late work. Also, if you know in advance that your student will be absent for an extended period (trip, extended illness, etc.), you may request that the teachers provide any work that will be missed. This is usually done through the guidance office, or you may contact any of the other "CYCLONES" team teachers. To visit their websites, please click on the links below.

    Grading Policy

    SEMS follows the WS/FCS ten-point grading scale which is as follows...
     A = 90-100
     B = 80-89
     C = 70-79
     D = 60-69
     F = 0-59

    LATE WORK POLICY:

    All assignments are expected to be turned in on time to receive full credit.  However, assignments will be penalized if they are turned in late (Day 1: -20%; Day 2 -30%; Day 3: -40%).  Late assignments will not be accepted after 3 days past the due date.

    MAKE-UP WORK POLICY:

    If a student is absent, he/she will be allowed to have 2 days for each day absent to make up the assignment.  Parents, it is imperative that you check your student's agenda (homework) book and our webpages for homework completion. This is especially helpful for multi-step and multi-day assignments.  If students get into the habit of showing you his/her completed homework (or work in progress) along with his/her listed assignments that can only help them become more successful!
