First Grade Primary Teacher
It is a privilege and a pleasure to be working with Mrs. Venable and our wonderful first graders this year as a primary reading teacher! I am looking forward to a very special year as we all learn and grow together in Room 213 at Jefferson Elementary.
I received my education at St. Mary's Jr. College in Raleigh, and I graduated with a BA in sociology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I have a Master's in Education from NC State University with certification in K-12 School Counseling. I earned my licensure in K-6 Elementary Education through the Graduate Teacher Education Program at Salem College. I have been a reading tutor at Jefferson, and I am a member of the Winston-Salem Council of the International Reading Association.
I have been a school counselor at all three levels, having been at Jefferson Elementary for the past eleven years. I have always enjoyed teaching lessons in the classrooms and getting to know the great students at our school!
My husband, Sam, is a dentist, and we have two children, both of whom graduated from Carolina. Elizabeth lives in Atlanta where she works for Cornucopia at AmericasMart. Worth lives in Denver where he works for the city's Family Crisis Center. We share our home with a wonderful senior golden retreiver named Jake and a sweet grey cat named Holly. We also have Chester, who is our energetic one year old English Setter.
I enjoy gardening, flower arranging, walking and reading. I love children's literature so I often visit Barnes and Noble to browse through the children's section while enjoying a cup of hot chocolate!
The conservation and preservation of our natural world is very important to me. I have two adoped manatees, Phyllis and Rosie, through the Save the Manatee Club. I am also a member of Polar Bear International.
First grade is definitely a wonderful place to be!
