•      WELCOME TO COMPUTER SPECIAL!!
    Keyboards

Specials at Kernersville Elementary are scheduled on a six day rotation. Each class in every grade level comes to computer once every six days for forty-five minutes.

Students enjoy learning computer skills such as keyboarding, using paint tools, word processing, spreadsheets, slide shows, research using the internet and much more.

Students in second thru fifth grades take a STAR Reading Test three times a year - beginning, middle and end. The STAR Reading Test is a computer-adaptive reading test that helps the teacher assess the student's reading level. The test is a multiple choice test that reduces the level of difficulty if the student misses a question and if a student answers correctly the difficulty is increased. This system is designed to minimize frustration and maximize accuracy for both the low-performing and high-performing student.

Students in kindergarten and first grade use the STAR Early Literacy Test to assess the student's readiness to begin reading. This test utilizes pictures, shapes, colors, letters, numbers and simple sentences to evaluate the emerging reader.
