Speech-language services include screening, evaluation and direct therapy for eligible students - including preschoolers - in the areas of articulation, language, voice and fluency. Students who meet North Carolina state guidelines for speech-language impaired services are under the umbrella of services for Exceptional Children and receive services based on their individual needs with parental permission.Homework
Students are asked to review all class work with parents. Much of what is done in speech sessions includes hands-on activities/games as students practice skills to attain their individual IEP goals. Take-home assignments vary in frequency but may include articulation drill work and take home reading that has target sounds repeated or language goals addressed.About Myself
I've worked as a speech-language pathologist for Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools since 1996. Prior to becoming a SLP, I taught exceptional children for twelve years in North and South Carolina. I received an undergraduate degree in Special Education from the University of Virginia and a graduate degree in Communication Disorders from The University of North Carolina - Greensboro.
