    Welcome to kindergarten at Southwest Elementary, room 6.  I am a graduate of Appalachian State University with a degree in Child Development: Birth - Kindergarten.  I have been teaching at Southwest since 2000.  I try to develop an academically-driven classroom, focusing on beginning reading, writing, and math skills.  My students will learn these important skills through direct teaching, use of manipulatives, and hands on exploration.  I do have an open door policy; feel free to visit our classroom to see great minds at work.
