The purpose of art in the Winston-Salem Forsyth County School art curriculum is to reinforce the individual student's innate creative abilities and to offer opportunities for creative self-expression in a visual capacity.  Art serves to focus sensory perception to provide for non-verbal communication and offers a vehicle for enjoyment and pleasure in a personal way.  The program is designed to sensitize the students to their physical environment by totally involving them in various art media, design elements and principles, composition, historical reference and encouragement of personal imagination.

Our students, K-5, have 45 minutes of Art once every 5 days.  This allow time to involve aesthetics, art criticism, art heritage and art making all in one lesson.
