• Brittney Gaulden Thomas, School Social Worker

Welcome to Brunson Elementary! This is my 1st year at Brunson Elementary and 1st year as a School Social Worker for Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools. I worked previously as a School Behavioral Health Specialist for Rockingham County Schools for two years, providing school-based counseling services. I was born in New York and moved to Winston-Salem, NC in 2000. I graduated from R.J. Reynolds High School in 2008 and received my Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice in 2012 from North Carolina Central University. I received my Masters in Social Work from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in 2019 and my clinical licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker- Associate.

As a School Social Worker, my role is to provide services that enhance and promote the educational, emotional, mental health, and social needs of students and families and to assist families in utilizing resources available to help them achieve their full potential within their home, school and community.

I work with individual students and their families to develop and implement plans to address barriers that impact and interfere with student success. These barriers often include issues such as: attendance/truancy, suicidal ideation, access and referrals to resources such as mental health agencies, child abuse, neglect and dependency, trauma, grief and loss, poverty and homelessness, domestic violence, juvenile delinquency, teen pregnancy and parenting needs, family conflict, and many other economic and behavioral issues.

Please feel free to contact me at any time during the school year.
