August 2023
Welcome parents and students!
On behalf of the amazing faculty and staff at Carter High School, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2023 – 2024 school year. We are anxiously awaiting our students’ return on Monday, August 28th. We are all excited about providing engaging real-world experiences that will enable students to learn, grow and excel. Carter High School is a learning community that is committed to helping students grow and become the best version of themselves.
Parents and guardians, we value a strong partnership with you. Because you are an integral part of the Carter High School family, we invite you to become an active participant in our school. There will be opportunities to participate in monthly parent information sessions, join our PTA and attend and support school events. We believe that when parents and guardians play an important role in their child’s education, there is a higher likelihood of student success.
Communication is very important to a successful school experience. We are committed to keeping you informed regularly about the happenings inside and outside of the classroom. Using a variety of mediums such as phone calls, emails, newsletters, apps, and in-person meetings will enable you to know what is going on in your child’s classroom and allow you to communicate with the teacher. In the upcoming days, your child’s teacher will notify you as to which tools they will be using.
Students, we are super excited to have you back in the school building. This year we will be intentional in making sure that you receive top notch individualized support. We will be completing transition planning with you and your parent/guardian to ensure that you are on the right track to graduate and maximizing your potential. We are committed to creating an environment conducive to individualized learning, social and emotional development, and the refinement of the life skills you will need on your journey to adulthood.
Not only will you learn in the classroom, but also in the community and extracurricular activities. You will have an opportunity to go on field trips, participate in basketball, swimming, volleyball, Special Olympic games, clubs, JROTC, attend college tours and much more. Below are some important upcoming events that I want you and your parents to be aware of:
August 28th – First Day of School
I look forward to working with students, parents and teachers as we focus on building our partnerships with one another. We will work together to provide students with real life experience that will prepare them to become productive citizens within their community. I am proud to be your principal!
Respectfully,
Ms. Shawnna Penn, Principal
