    Dear Parents and Guardians,

    Welcome to Music!

If you’re new to the music room, my name is Ms. Hartley. It is my second year at North Hills, and I can’t wait to reconnect with my students and parents. I am planning a year full of musical experiences for your child! They will sing, play new instruments, perform, and dance every day in my classroom. I hope to make music a favorite topic at the dinner table.

So much happens in every year of music! Because of this, the year will be full of important topics. It is extremely important to keep in mind that we all build on small successes. Each child will progress at his/her own rate, acquiring skills as he/she is developmentally ready. Maintaining each child's self-esteem and building a secure foundation for future growth will always remain a priority in my music classroom. Here are some ways you can help:

    • Celebrate your child's success, no matter how small it may seem. This will keep your child enthusiastic about learning and proud of their work! This is particularly important for my 4th and 5th grade recorder parents, as your students will likely start our Recorder Belt Program. You will find more information on this in my mid-semester letter.

    • Listen to new music with your child! Listening and engaging in musical activities at home will make them more excited to participate in musical experiences with me.

    • Come be a part of my music room! I’m always thrilled to welcome volunteers or curious parents interested in what we do in Music.

Again, I look forward to teaching your child and working with you to help your child achieve their fullest potential. Please don’t hesitate to contact me.

    Sincerely,

    Ms. E. Hartley
