     Welcome Back Eagles,

I am very excited about the upcoming year! We will be very busy in English Language Arts class. In addition to getting ready for the EOG, we will explore a wide variety of literature from around the world, and sharpen our writing skills, with a focus on self-expression. This class will involve group work, discussion, individual and team projects. The goal is to have you reading for deeper meaning, and thinking at a higher level.

•A composition notebook that will be used as your Interactive Notebook

    •Notebook paper

    •Pens and pencils

    •Highlighters (pink and green)

If you bring each of these items with you to class each day, you will be sure to be successful.

Novels that your student may be reading this year :

    The Outsiders (S.E. Hinton)

The Skin I'm In (Sharon Flake)

    Lupita Manana

Grades will be based on a variety of factors, including class assignments, homework, tests, quizzes, journal assignments, essays, projects, attentiveness, and participation in class.

    Grading Scale:                                            Percentage Breakdown:

    A 90-100                                                Class work/ Participation 20%

    B 89-80                                                  Homework    10%

    C 79-70                                                 Quizzes         20%

    D 69-60                                                  Tests             25%

    F  59-0                                                  Projects         25%

You alone are responsible for your grade. Do what is expected of you each day and you cannot fail.

•Students are expected to make up any missed assignments.

•Upon returning to class, students will need to check the missed work organizer to receive assignments they missed, and complete them in a timely manner. It is the student's responsibility to keep up with their missed work.

•Test and quizzes are announced well in advance, if you are absent the day before a test of quiz, but present on the day the test or quiz is given, be prepared to take it.

•Students who are absent for several days before a test will need to make up individual assignments before making up the test
