I am Ms. Kim Walker. I currently work at C. Douglas Carter High School as the Instructional Facilitator and Testing Coordinator. I have 20 + years of educational experience as a certified math instructor with WS/FCS. I've worked with all students in traditional, alternative, and special education.
Carter High School Curriculum
Carter High School adheres to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction North Carolina Extended Common Core State Standard Curriculum.The Alternate Achievement Standards for Students With the Most Significant Cognitive Disabilities Non-Regulatory Guidance states, “…materials should show a clear link to the content standards for the grade in which the student is enrolled, although the grade-level content may be reduced in complexity or modified to reflect pre-requisite skills. Throughout the Standards, descriptors such as, describe, answer, ask, name, etc, should be interpreted to mean that the student will be taught and tested according to their usual mode of communication.

Carter High School instructional resources include ULS (Unique Learning System) and Styers-Fitzgerald programs. Unique Learning System is designed specifically to help students with special learning needs master their state’s extended standards.
Styers Fitzgerald, Functional Academics Program is specifically designed to meet the needs of students with a variety of developmental disabilities. The skills targeted throughout the Assessment and Curriculum have been chosen for the explicit purpose of empowering students to reach their greatest level of independence.
