Common Application

What is Common Application and do I have to use it?

The Common App is used by 900+ schools, some which are outside the US. If any schools are members, you must use the Common App, which is a unified online application - you will only have to fill out the basic information once.

What if the schools I want to apply to do not use Common App?

Although most applications are online, some are still mail-in only. Naviance knows what type of application system schools use by the icons seen in "Colleges I am Applying To". For example, a stamp icon means mail-in application and a screen with "CA" means it is a Common App School.

What is the FERPA Waiver?

The Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act gives students the right to see their educational records, which can include notes made by admission committee, and letters of recommendation that counselors & teachers write. It is strongly suggested students 'waive their right' to access their records, that way you allow your counselors & teachers the freedom to write honest evaluations.
