JFK Battle of the Books

The North Carolina School Library Media Association (NCSLMA) defines Battle of the Books (BOB) as a statewide reading competition designed to promote reading comprehension, teamwork, and a love of literature among students. Battle of the Books (BOB) teams participate in a quiz-bowl-style competition where students collaborate to answer detailed questions about books they’ve read from a curated list.

How It Works?

  • Book List: Each year, a committee selects a list of books tailored to each grade level.

  • Team Formation: Schools form teams of students who read the selected books.

  • Practice: Teams meet regularly to discuss the books and prepare for competitions.

  • Competitions: Teams compete in quiz-bowl-style tournaments, answering questions about the books.

How to Join

Students who enjoy reading and working as part of a team are encouraged to participate. Details about meetings and sign-ups are shared at the start of each season. See Mrs. C-O in the Media Center for more information.
