The purpose of this page is to enable students looking for work to locate the job openings in the surrounding areas or volunteer opportunities.  There are two pages nested under this overview page:

It is important to remember that if you are not 18 years of age by the time you start a job, you must complete a YEC (Youth Employment Certificate, also known as a Worker's Permit) with your parents' signature, even if you are going to be employed by your parents.

Habitat for Humanity (opportunities available for on-site construction and through ReStore.  Check the website for how to get involved and make a difference through Habitat for Humanity. Click here to get started.

Animal Adoption and Rescue Foundation (AARF) of Winston-Salem exists to improve the lives of cats and dogs while strengthening the human and animal bond. Volunteer opportunities are available for animal socialization, fostering, and designing of event flyers. Volunteers must be 18 years of age, or 16 with parent authorization. Clemmons Food Pantry is always accepting new volunteers at their Clemmons location.  Volunteers can help unload, unpack and shelf items. Potential volunteers must attend an orientation session and then schedule their own volunteer days/times. Second Harvest Food Bank in Winston-Salem is called upon to support people who are facing food insecurity in the community.  Volunteers are needed every day to help provide this service.  Opportunities are available in community meal preparation, food sorting and community food distribution.  Check out the Second Harvest Food Bank website to learn more and sign up to be a volunteer. Click here to get started.

The Salvation Army has a motto called "Doing the Most Good".  It takes many volunteers to provide services to the community. Students can volunteer for meal delivery or ring the bell to collect donations.  There are also opportunities for food pantry assistance, helping with the Boys and Girls Clubs of WS and collection at the Salvation Army thrift store.  Check out the website to learn more. Click here to get started.

Students that have an interest in the medical field can apply to the Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Summer VolunTeen Program. This program is open to students ages 14-18, and not graduating this school year.  Students must be 14 by May 31st, 2025 to apply. The summer volunteen program is a 4-week program that runs during July and August. The application process is very competitive, so early submission is important.  No student will be considered after the application deadline and all requirements must be submitted. Check out the website for more information and to apply online. Make sure to select the appropriate location. There are opportunities in W-S, Lexington, and High Point. The deadline to apply is TBD for 2025. Updated deadlines and information will be posted to this website when made available.  Click here to apply.

Big Brothers, Big Sisters Services in Forsyth and Davie counties has changed children's lives by matching them with caring adults to help guide them on a path to success.  High school students can sign up to "Be a Big" and get matched with a young boy or girl that could benefit from your guidance and support. One hour, one week, one year is the time commitment that a Big serves. Volunteering just a few hours a month can start something amazing for a child.
