     Calvin Freeman

    Mr. Calvin Freeman was approved to be the new Principal of RJ Reynolds High School by the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools Board of Education last week. Mr. Freeman is a highly qualified educator with over 25 years of experience. He began his career in Durham Public Schools, where he spent 16 years serving in various roles. Most notably, he spent 13 years at the Durham School of the Arts, where he was an Assistant Principal and Athletic Director. Calvin Freeman left DPS to accept an elementary principalship in Warren County Schools. Under his supervision, the school exceeded growth and saw an increase in achievement data, resulting in the performance grade going from a "D" to  a "C". Mr. Freeman continued his success at Hairston Middle School in Guilford County, where he was principal for 4 years. In 2019, he returned to his high school roots and became the principal of Thomasville High School in Thomasville City Schools.
     
    Calvin Freeman has a proven record of instructional leadership resulting in improved outcomes for students. He earned a bachelor's degree from North Carolina State University and a master's degree from North Carolina Central. 
     
     
    He brings a true commitment to strong instruction, and building relationships with students, parents and community.  His exact start date is still to be determined.
