•   Welcome New Parents to Southwest!
    (enrollment info)
Communication:  Please sign up to receive the monthly Southwest PTA News via e-mail. Additional email alerts will go out, as needed throughout the school year. Don't miss out on important school news; sign up today!
Returning Paperwork to School:  Anything that needs to be returned to the school or the PTA may be sent with your child to school. Your child's teacher will collect it and get it to the office where it will be routed to the appropriate person. You do not need to bring papers to the office yourself.
PTA Membership: Forms to join the PTA will come home with your child at the beginning of each year. PTA membership is open to both dads and moms and is not limited to one per family. We strongly encourage every parent to join our PTA team.  Our membership is $6 per member.
Volunteer Opportunities:  There are many ways in which parents can participate at Southwest and many opportunities to volunteer.
There are many PTA committees that always need more parent help. Throughout the year you will see requests come home for volunteers for many of the events that are sponsored by both the school and the PTA. Please visit our volunteer section to see the many opportunities.
School Pictures:  Each fall you will receive information home about picture day. If your child misses picture day or you don't like the pictures that you ordered, there is a make-up day to have pictures retaken. In the spring, there is another picture day at which time you can purchase school pictures.
Spiritwear:  Each year the PTA sells Southwest t-shirts for a nominal fee. These t-shirts are worn on school field trips as well as on Friday, which is Southwest's spirit day.
PTA and School Events: The school and PTA sponsor many events that are lots of fun for the students and their families. Below is a brief outline of some of those events. For more detailed information feel free to talk to your child's classroom PTA representative, any PTA member or other parents.

Fall Festival: The Southwest Fall Festival is the largest PTA event and primary fundraiser! It is also the most anticipated event by the students each year. Each year there is a different theme. Kids, parents and siblings are all welcome for a fun-filled evening of food, games, and prizes. Themed baskets will be raffled off that night. Watch for a request from your child's teacher to make a donation to this basket for the raffle. Pre-order your tickets for the food and games when the PTA sends home the order form so you can start your evening without having to stand in line for tickets. You will also save money with the pre-order.

Book Fair: Each fall and spring a book fair is held in the Media Center. Book fair hours will be sent home with your child and you may come to shop the book fair with your child during those hours. Money spent at the book fair helps to earn books for the Southwest library.

Open House is held on an evening a few days before school begins. This is a time for your child to meet his/her teacher and classmates as well as see the classroom and the rest of the school.

Reflections:Reflections is an opportunity for students to participate in a school wide art contest. Those chosen by the Reflections committee will have their project sent to compete in the State competition.

Jump Rope for Heart is a fundraiser for the American Heart Association that is put on by our gym teachers. The kids gather in the gym to participate in various physical activities and learn about heart healthy lifestyle choices.

Winter and Fall Musicals: These are great events to attend! The Winter Musical features all students in the third grade and the Spring Musical features all students in the first grade. The musicals also showcase our 5th Grade Chorus.

Fun events are always being added throughout the school year. Watch for announcements to come home in your child's backpack or by email.
