Here's what students in Ms. Stephens' classes will be doing this week:
Kindergarten students will describe weather and talk about how people adapt to different kinds of weather.  They continue to learn letter names and sounds and to identify high frequency words in print.
First graders will also focus on weather, but they will be practicing strategies for learning new information from nonfiction texts.
Second graders will begin the new year by comparing and contrasting different communities with their own.  Their first reading is a realistic fiction story called Chinatown--gung hay fat choy!
Fifth graders will continue reading about events of the American Revolutionary period, contrasting the way a historical fantasy and a biography present information about historical figures and events.
